Start with ownership and paperwork
Have the vehicle’s year, make and model ready, and explain whether you have the title and keys. If the vehicle is not yours, or ownership documents are missing, raise that before scheduling. Do not assume a removal company can resolve an ownership problem on arrival.
A removal appointment and a transfer of ownership are separate matters to clarify. For New Jersey documents, use the Motor Vehicle Commission’s ownership-transfer guidance and confirm the process appropriate to your situation. If your documents are missing or ownership is unclear, resolve the required steps before collection.
Explain the condition and access
Tell the provider if the vehicle has flat tires, missing wheels, collision damage or parts removed. Explain whether it can roll and steer, if known. A vehicle that has sat for a long time should not be described as ready to drive unless you know that is true.
- Vehicle description, location and ownership situation.
- Whether the keys and relevant documents are available.
- Missing wheels, flat tires or other known loading problems.
- Access through gates, driveways, parking areas or other barriers.
- Any property-manager coordination needed for entry.
Get the financial arrangement clear
Ask whether there is a removal charge, a payment to you, or another arrangement for this particular vehicle. None should be assumed from the phrase “junk removal.” Confirm what information the quote depends on and what could change it.
If the vehicle is on someone else’s property or belongs to someone else, identify that clearly. Abandoned-vehicle or disputed-ownership situations may involve a different process; do not treat a routine collection request as authorization to remove it.
Prepare for the handoff
When it is safe to access the vehicle, remove personal belongings and check places you may overlook, such as the glove box, console and trunk. Consider toll tags, parking passes and personal documents. Follow the applicable MVC instructions for plates and ownership paperwork.
Confirm who will be present, who can sign or authorize release, and what record of the collection you should receive. Leave room for the provider to assess loading access; do not attempt to drag or dismantle the vehicle to prepare it.
Questions about this service
Will I receive cash for the vehicle?
Confirm whether your vehicle involves a removal charge, a payment to you, or another arrangement before agreeing to pickup.
Can I arrange removal without a title?
Explain the missing paperwork first. Confirm the required documents and any applicable MVC process; do not assume an exception is available.
What if the vehicle has no wheels?
Tell us before booking. Missing wheels affect loading, so the condition and location need to be assessed.
